Teaching Standards

On teaching standards and use of teaching materials and textbooks

Update 2013-04-08: French  translation added.

Board members of IARTEM have worked on the development of a set of standards on the use of teaching and learning materials in school classrooms. There is an international movement in making teachers more accountable and developing teaching standards to regulate teacher education, professional development and teacher competency. General teaching standards that neglect the use of teaching and learning materials have emerged from this movement. The idea of this section of the website is to

  1. Introduce you to the draft standards for you to explore, investigate and comment on;
  2. Respond to the standards that have been presented, by making comment in the blog opportunity;
  3. Preparing for the round table on these draft standards at the IARTEM Conference in Ostrava 2013, 18-20th September.
  4. Contributing to the development of international standards on the use of teaching and learning materials in classrooms to inform the development of national standards.

Can you please read the draft standards and commence a conversation about

  1. Have previous teaching standards ignored the role of teaching and learning materials in teaching and learning?
  2. Do we need specific standards around teaching and learning materials?
  3. How do you respond to the draft standards on the IARTEM website?
  4. Any other comments?
